Chechen-American brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev detonated two homemade pressure cooker bombs near the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, 2013, killing 3 and injuring 264. Tamerlan was killed in a police confrontation three days later; Dzhokhar was captured after a massive manhunt that locked down the Boston metropolitan area. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was convicted on all 30 counts in 2015 and sentenced to death — a sentence upheld by the Supreme Court in 2022.
