Russian Ballistic Missile Strike Kills 7 at Kyiv Railway Depot, Including 6 Rail Workers
Russia launched a combined overnight barrage of ballistic and cruise missiles alongside 218 Shahed-type strike drones at Kyiv and the surrounding region into September 1; Ukrainian air defenses intercepted or suppressed 199 of the drones. The deadliest strike of the night hit a Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) maintenance depot and other railway facilities in the capital with a ballistic missile, killing 7 people, 6 of them railway employees, and wounding at least one other worker hospitalized with injuries. One workshop was completely destroyed and several fires broke out at the site; train traffic on two sections was briefly suspended before being restored. It marked the sixth consecutive day of sustained Russian bombardment of the Kyiv region. Separately, Russia continued daytime drone activity on September 1, launching 99 additional attack drones, 82 of which Ukraine's air defenses neutralized.
