Ukraine Strikes St. Petersburg — Kronstadt Naval Base (Corvette Boikiy Set Ablaze), Oil Terminal, Tambov Defense Facility; 350+ Drones; Day 1,560
On June 3, 2026 (Day 1,560), Ukraine launched one of its deepest and most strategically significant long-range drone attacks of the war, striking targets in and around St. Petersburg — approximately 1,200–1,400 km from Ukrainian territory. The attack commenced hours before the opening of Putin's St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), often called 'Putin's Davos.' Key targets struck: (1) Kronstadt naval base — a Russian guided-missile corvette, the Boikiy, was set on fire while in dry dock, marking Ukraine's farthest naval strike of the war; (2) St. Petersburg's largest oil transshipment terminal in the northern port district was struck, causing fires; (3) a defense-related facility in Tambov Oblast was also struck. Three districts of St. Petersburg were affected by drone impacts and/or debris. Russia's defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 350+ Ukrainian drones across the night's operations. Several people were wounded in St. Petersburg. Ukraine's SBU (Security Service) confirmed the operation, describing it as targeting Russia's military-industrial capacity and energy export infrastructure. President Zelensky stated the strikes were a 'justified and necessary response' to Russia's ongoing mass aerial bombardment of Ukrainian cities. The SPIEF attack timing carried clear symbolic weight — Russia was hosting global business leaders at the moment its second city was under drone attack.
