Rosatom: Ukrainian Strikes on Fuel Convoy Near Zaporizhzhia Plant Kill Two Russian Servicemen

Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said Ukrainian forces launched 'a series of combined strikes' on September 11 against diesel fuel trucks supplying the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, hitting very close to the station's perimeter, killing two Russian servicemen and injuring others. Diesel generators are critical to the plant because they cool reactor fuel when its two external power lines are down — both had been offline for nearly three weeks in August and September before a September 8 repair. The plant's director called it 'the worst event the plant has faced,' according to the IAEA, which has a permanent observer team at the site and has repeatedly mediated between the two sides. Ukraine did not immediately comment on the Russian account.
