Russian Banderol Missiles Kill 10 in Kharkiv Region's Pechenihy, Wound 5 in Izyum

| Ukraine War

Russian forces struck the village of Pechenihy in Kharkiv region with two Banderol missiles — small, jet-powered cruise missiles — early on August 18, killing 10 people and wounding at least 18 in a residential area at a busy intersection lined with a post office, shops, and homes. Ten private homes, a cafe, a post office, a store, and at least seven vehicles were damaged or destroyed. A separate strike on nearby Izyum wounded 5 people, including a 9-year-old boy. The attack came as part of a wider overnight barrage in which Russia launched 147 drones (Shahed, Gerbera, and Parodiya decoys among them) at Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses downing 111; Russian drones also struck Brovary in Kyiv region, sparking fires that damaged an office building and warehouses. President Zelensky called it a 'brutal attack' and pledged Ukraine 'will definitely respond.'
