Ukraine's Flamingo Missiles Hit Russia's Progress Rocket and Space Center in Samara, Savasleyka Airbase

| Ukraine War

President Zelensky confirmed Ukraine struck two deep targets inside Russia overnight into August 15 using domestically produced FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles. The Progress Rocket and Space Center — a Roscosmos facility in Samara that manufactures Soyuz-2 carrier rockets and electronics for Russian weapons systems — was hit roughly 900km from Ukraine's border, triggering an explosion and fire on the premises. Separately, Ukraine's General Staff confirmed a strike on Savasleyka airbase in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast (~700km from the border), which hosts MiG-31K jets equipped with Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missiles; fires were reported at the facility. Zelensky described the strikes as part of Ukraine's 'long-range sanctions' campaign to reduce Russia's war potential.
