Trump Claims Russia and Ukraine 'Close to Peace Deal'; Zelenskyy Says No Real Progress
US President Trump on March 24 claimed that Russia and Ukraine are close to a peace deal. However, Zelenskyy said after a briefing from Ukraine's negotiating team that there had been no real progress in talks due to Russia's unwillingness to move toward peace. The Financial Times reported Trump is losing interest in negotiations as he focuses on Iran. Further talks in the UAE, scheduled for early March, were postponed due to US/Israeli military action against Iran. A US-Ukraine bilateral meeting was held in Miami, Florida, on March 22. Russia continues to insist on Ukrainian territorial concessions, while Zelenskyy refuses to cede land without binding security guarantees.
