Syrian Security Forces Foil Weapons Shipment Bound for Lebanon From Tartus
Syria's Internal Security Forces, working with the General Intelligence Service, seized a shipment of automatic rifles, RPG rounds, weapons-storage units, and ammunition being smuggled from Tartus province toward Lebanon, the Interior Ministry announced August 8, 2026. Officials said protecting the border and Syrian sovereignty were top priorities and that Damascus would not allow its territory to be used for arms trafficking. The operation follows a similar July interdiction of a weapons shipment on the Syria-Iraq border that Damascus said was bound for Hezbollah.
