SAF Says It Repelled RSF Attack on Jebel Kadam Near Kurmuk as RSF Media Claims Capture

Sudan's army said on September 15, 2026 that its 4th Infantry Division, based in Damazin, repelled a Rapid Support Forces attack on the strategically important Jebel Kadam area of Kurmuk locality, Blue Nile state, near the Ethiopian border, inflicting 'heavy losses in personnel and equipment' on the RSF and retaining full control of the area. The army urged residents to disregard 'misleading reports and rumours' about RSF control. RSF-affiliated media channels had earlier circulated unofficial claims that the paramilitary force seized Jebel Kadam, though the RSF issued no official statement confirming control. Military analyst Jamal al-Shaheed said the area's position along Kurmuk's eastern axis, near the Ethiopia-Sudan border, gives whoever holds it an advantage in surveillance and reconnaissance of cross-border movements. The clash follows a broader RSF-SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction) offensive that has pushed toward the Ethiopian border in Blue Nile through 2026.
