Drone Barrage Hits Ed Damazin Fuel Stations, Airport and 4th Infantry Division HQ, Blue Nile State

A wave of drone strikes hit Ed Damazin, capital of Sudan's Blue Nile state, beginning Sunday night, September 13, 2026 and escalating overnight into Monday, September 14. The first strikes hit the Al-Asfiya fuel station near Blue Nile University and the Nawafel Al-Shaheed fuel station in the city market, killing station guard Ismail Mun Jaber; two further deaths near Nawafel Al-Shaheed were reported but unconfirmed. The barrage then extended to Damazin Airport, where witnesses told AFP they 'woke up to the sounds of explosions' and saw a drone crash near the runway causing a large fire, and to the headquarters of the army's 4th Infantry Division. The Sudanese army deployed anti-aircraft defenses over the city. The Blue Nile state government said authorities had dealt with 'the enemy's attempts to target Al-Damazin with drones' and that the situation was 'under control.' The Rapid Support Forces and its ally the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (al-Hilu faction) were blamed by local sources, though neither group claimed responsibility and Darfur24 said it could not independently verify the allegation. The Blue Nile Civil Society Initiative condemned the targeting of civilian facilities and called for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian corridor. Al-Damazin has been largely spared direct fighting through the war, but RSF-SPLM-N forces have pushed a offensive along the Ethiopian border and their nearest known positions are now less than 100km south of the city.
