SPLM-N Forces Kill 21+ Otoro Villagers in Debi and Luwairi Near Kauda, Violating August Ceasefire
SPLM-N (al-Hilu faction) fighters attacked the villages of Debi and Luweri, south and west of Kauda in South Kordofan's Nuba Mountains, on Thursday, September 4, 2026, killing more than 21 people — including women and children — from the Otoro ethnic minority and wounding at least 11 others, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. The group said the attack 'constitute[d] a clear violation of the [late-August ceasefire] agreement, a resumption of hostilities, and the targeting of civilians on an ethnic basis,' and that at least 158 people have been killed in SPLM-N operations against Otoro communities since violence there erupted in March 2026. Al-Hilu's SPLM-N never committed to an RSF-backed ceasefire initiative launched in August and had already struck at least 10 Otoro villages between August 20-26, displacing thousands of civilians.
