SAF Drone Strikes Hit Three Sites in El Geneina, West Darfur — 2+ Killed

Sudan's Armed Forces conducted drone strikes on at least three locations in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, on May 13, 2026. The strikes killed at least two people and wounded several others. El Geneina has been under RSF control since the RSF overran West Darfur in late 2023 and was the site of the El Geneina massacre (2023) in which RSF and allied Arab militias killed an estimated 10,000–15,000 Massalit civilians. The May 13 strikes represent part of SAF's ongoing aerial campaign targeting RSF-controlled Darfur capitals and logistical hubs — alongside the recent Nyala strikes (May 10–11) and Al-Daein strikes (May 12) — as SAF attempts to degrade RSF command infrastructure in Darfur while pursuing its counteroffensive on the ground. El Geneina's proximity to the Chad border (approximately 60 km) makes it a key RSF logistics node for cross-border supply from Chad. The strikes follow OHCHR Human Rights Chief Türk's May 11 warning that drone strikes account for over 80% of civilian deaths in the war — a critique that applies to both SAF strikes in RSF areas and RSF strikes in SAF-controlled cities.
