RSF Drone Strikes Kill 26 Civilians in Al Quz (South Kordofan) and Near El Obeid (North Kordofan)
RSF drone strikes on May 8, 2026 killed at least 26 civilians in two separate attacks: one in Al Quz, South Kordofan State and one near El Obeid, North Kordofan State, according to the OHCHR high-alert statement by UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk issued on May 11, 2026. The Al Quz strike in South Kordofan extends RSF drone operations into an area where SAF has been pushing counteroffensive operations against RSF-SPLM-N positions. The El Obeid strike continues the near-daily pattern of RSF drone attacks on North Kordofan's state capital, which has been struck repeatedly since SAF broke the ground siege in February 2025 — including 13 civilians killed (8 children) on April 24, 7 civilians killed on April 25, and multiple strikes in early May. The May 8 strikes bring documented civilian drone deaths in 2026 (January–April plus early May) to at least 880, according to OHCHR. Türk cited these attacks as part of his high-alert warning that drone warfare now accounts for over 80% of all conflict-related civilian deaths in Sudan.
