RSF Drone Strike Kills 7, Wounds 22 in El-Obeid Residential Neighborhoods

A drone strike carried out by the Rapid Support Forces hit residential neighborhoods in El-Obeid (Al-Ubayyid), North Kordofan State capital on April 25, 2026, killing at least seven civilians and wounding 22 others. The Sudan Doctors Network characterized the attack as 'a grave violation of international humanitarian law and norms,' condemning 'the deliberate targeting of densely populated neighborhoods' and stated the strikes were aimed at 'causing the highest possible number of civilian casualties rather than achieving military objectives.' The network appealed to the international community for intervention and called on local authorities to reinforce medical facilities with supplies and personnel to handle the wounded. The April 25 strike follows an April 24 RSF drone attack on a residential house in El-Obeid that killed 13 people including 8 children. El-Obeid has faced near-daily RSF drone attacks since the SAF broke the ground siege in February 2025; the city remains an SAF-held strategic hub in North Kordofan. The RSF has maintained a sustained drone harassment campaign against El-Obeid and other Kordofan population centers, targeting markets, residential neighborhoods, and healthcare facilities. These attacks form part of the broader RSF drone offensive that killed approximately 700 civilians across Sudan in Q1 2026 (January–March), including around 245 children — a 50% increase in child casualties versus the same period in 2025.
