RSF Drone Strike Kills 13 in El-Obeid Residential House, Including 8 Children

| Sudan Conflict

An RSF drone strike hit a residential house in El-Obeid (Al-Ubayyid), the capital of North Kordofan State, killing 13 people including 8 children. The strike is among a series of near-daily RSF drone attacks on El-Obeid and other Kordofan population centers that have continued despite SAF's February 2025 relief of the city's ground siege. El-Obeid, a SAF-controlled city of strategic importance, has faced persistent RSF drone harassment targeting markets, residential neighborhoods, and health facilities. The UN documented RSF drone strikes as responsible for a significant portion of the estimated 700 civilian deaths from drone attacks across Sudan in January–March 2026, including approximately 245 children. OHCHR noted in March 2026 that the vast majority of drone strike civilian deaths occurred in Kordofan region. RSF drones — primarily loitering munitions — have reached cities well beyond contested frontlines, targeting civilians in areas nominally under SAF control. International humanitarian organizations have called for a global arms embargo to halt the drone supply chains enabling these strikes.
