UN Welcomes Extension of Adré Border Crossing Through June 2026; 2026 Aid Plan Only 16% Funded

| Sudan Conflict

The United Nations welcomed the Sudanese government's decision to extend authorization for the Adré border crossing with Chad through June 30, 2026. The Adré crossing has delivered over 118,000 metric tons of humanitarian aid since early 2024 and supports approximately 3.3 million people in Darfur and parts of Kordofan. The UN described the crossing as 'critical' given escalating violence and displacement driving humanitarian needs to record levels. However, the UN noted the 2026 Sudan Humanitarian Response Plan requires $2.9 billion and has received only 16% of required funding as of April 1 — leaving an approximate 84% funding gap. IOM separately launched a $277 million appeal to expand its Sudan response. The UN also noted at least 4,000 people fled Blue Nile State to Ethiopia in March alone due to the new RSF-SPLM-N offensive, and hundreds of suspected measles cases were reported in displacement camps in North Kordofan, with a vaccination campaign planned for April.
