Day 770: Two Women Shot Along Mazatlán–Tepic Highway Near Escuinapa; One Dead, Narco-Message Left
Two women were found with gunshot wounds in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, alongside the federal Mexico 15 highway in the "El Tobogán" area of Escuinapa municipality, near the Nayarit border. One woman, identified as Verónica, had multiple bullet impacts and was pronounced dead at the scene; the other, identified as Glenda, 28, suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to a hospital for treatment. A cardboard sign bearing a message allegedly linked to a criminal group was left near the body. The Sinaloa Fiscalía secured the scene and opened an investigation; no arrests were announced. The killing adds to a pattern of lethal attacks on women in southern Sinaloa's Escuinapa–Mazatlán corridor as the Chapitos–Mayos dispute over the Mazatlán plaza continues.
