Day 711 — Sheinbaum Presents Yucatán Accountability Report in Mérida: 781,000 in Welfare Programs, Tren Maya Cargo Line, New Power Plant

On September 12, 2026 (Day 711, Saturday), President Sheinbaum arrived in Mérida to deliver her regional "Honestidad y Resultados" (Honesty and Results) accountability report at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center, accompanied by Governor Joaquín "Huacho" Díaz Mena, federal cabinet officials and regional representatives. She reported that 781,215 Yucatecans receive benefits from federal welfare programs, representing an investment of more than 17 billion pesos in the state. On healthcare, she highlighted Yucatán's full integration into IMSS-Bienestar — guaranteeing free medical care — and the ongoing 5.41-billion-peso expansion of the Hospital General "Dr. Agustín O'Horán" in Mérida, plus construction of a Health University in Umán and three Benito Juárez García Welfare Universities. On infrastructure, she announced 244 new primary-care clinics for Yucatán as part of a 12,750-unit national network, cited the newly completed "Elvia Carrillo Puerto" combined-cycle power plant (454 million USD investment, 518 MW capacity, benefiting roughly 1.2 million residents), and detailed the first stage of the Tren Maya de Carga freight line — a 36.614-billion-peso investment with five cargo complexes and four operating yards. A new 1,100-student high school in Mérida was also announced. Yucatán was the 16th state visited in the tour's first two weeks; the "Honestidad y Resultados" tour reaches its midpoint here and is scheduled to conclude September 27 in Mexico City.
