Car Bomb Explodes Outside Police Headquarters in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas — 11 Injured

On August 30, 2026 (Sunday) around 7:30 PM local time, an unidentified man parked a vehicle laden with explosives in front of the municipal police (DSPM) command in Ojocaliente, Zacatecas, then fled on foot; the device detonated when an officer approached to inspect it. Eleven people were injured, including civilians and municipal police, at least two seriously. The blast damaged roughly five city blocks — at least seven homes, businesses, private vehicles and patrol units, with windows shattered throughout the area. State Security Secretary Arturo Medina Mayoral said authorities were investigating possible involvement of a Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) cell; the vehicle used had been reported stolen in Jalisco since April, and the explosive materials resembled those used in mining operations. A near-simultaneous explosion in Villa García led to the detention of an 18-year-old who claimed CJNG membership. State officials said the attack was the 17th documented explosive-device attack on security forces in Zacatecas over the prior two years and the 10th of 2026 alone, part of an escalating wave that has included motorcycle-borne devices and improvised metal-pipe bombs ("niples"). State and federal forces reinforced the area following the blast.
