On August 27, 2026 (Day 695, Thursday), President Sheinbaum announced that Mexico's Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) had recovered more than $5 million from a network of companies tied to Mauricio Samuel Weinberg López and Jonathan Alexis Weinberg Pinto, identified as associates and front men for former Public Security Secretary Genaro García Luna. She said UIF chief Omar Reyes Colmenares would return the next day to explain the recovery mechanism in detail. The recovery adds to a $578.5 million May 2026 Florida civil judgment in Mexico's favor over García Luna's illicit public-contracting scheme and prior 2025 criminal sentencing exceeding $2.448 billion, bringing total recoveries tied to the García Luna corruption network above $3.067 billion.
