Sheinbaum Announces School Supply Support for 7.2M Elementary Students; Education Programs at Record Highs

During her April 13 mañanera press conference, President Sheinbaum announced that over 7.2 million elementary school students would receive economic support for school supplies and uniforms for the 2026–27 school year. The president also highlighted record program enrollment across the administration's education initiatives: 8.2 million beneficiaries in the Beca Rita Cetina scholarship program, 4.1 million in the Beca Benito Juárez secondary program, and 423,000 in Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro higher education grants. Sheinbaum addressed the upcoming Barcelona trip, reaffirming that Mexico-Spain diplomatic relations had never formally been severed despite AMLO's earlier estrangement, and that the visit would signal renewed engagement with multilateral institutions. She also noted that Mexico's constitutional sovereignty clause — protecting against unauthorized foreign intervention — was already being drafted for submission to Congress.
