Measles Outbreak Improving: Daily Cases Down 66% from February Peak

| Sheinbaum (2024–)

Sheinbaum provided an update on Mexico's measles outbreak — which had begun in February 2025 and resurged in early 2026 — reporting that daily case counts had fallen from a peak of approximately 220 cases per day (reached around February 20, 2026) to under 70 cases per day by early April, a 66% reduction. The government attributed the decline to an emergency vaccination campaign launched in late February 2026. Mexico's vaccination authorities estimated the affected population concentrated in specific municipalities in northern and central states. Health Secretary David Kershenobich was credited with coordinating the public health response.
