Sheinbaum Announces National Water Law Ending Commercialization, Cracking Down on Overexploitation

At her Monday mañanera, President Sheinbaum detailed the new National Water Law, which ends water commercialization by private companies, requires overexploiters to pay approximately 12 billion pesos in accumulated debts, and punishes water hoarding with fines up to 3.5 million pesos or imprisonment. She also reaffirmed that a recall referendum (revocación de mandato) would take place in 2027 as a constitutional democratic mechanism. Sheinbaum signed a decree officially recognizing community tourism for historically marginalized Indigenous communities. She also announced the FGR is actively investigating funeral homes 'Rueda' and 'El Ángel de Iguala' for potential links to the enforced disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.
