Houthi Missile and Drone Barrage Wounds 73 Across Four Saudi Provinces

Yemen's Houthi movement launched a wave of ballistic missiles and drones at civilian and energy sites across Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran provinces in southern Saudi Arabia on Sept 8, 2026, wounding 73 people including women and children and sparking fires at multiple energy installations. The Saudi Ministry of Energy confirmed a 'temporary halt in some operations' at affected facilities. A projectile also struck the Al-Tuwal area of Jazan, damaging a mosque and several vehicles and wounding two people; Saudi Civil Defence called the targeting of civilian objects 'a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.' The Houthis separately claimed a strike on a military base in Sharurah, Najran province, saying it hit 'weapons depots and command and control centres.' Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki called the barrage 'a dangerous escalation' and vowed 'all necessary operational measures'; Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack used 'dozens of ballistic missiles and drones' in response to more than 120 Saudi-led coalition strikes on Yemen over the previous three days.
