Riyadh Factory Fire Kills 16 Bangladeshi Workers
A fire broke out at an unlicensed furniture-upholstery facility in Riyadh's Musa Sanaiya industrial area, killing 16 Bangladeshi migrant workers. Saudi Civil Defence extinguished the blaze; no cause was formally disclosed. Bangladesh's embassy in Riyadh worked with Saudi authorities to identify victims and coordinate repatriation of remains, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directing ministries to speed the process and secure compensation. Saudi Arabia hosts an estimated 3.5 million Bangladeshi workers, who remitted over $2.7 billion home in the past year, putting renewed scrutiny on labor and workplace-safety conditions in the Kingdom's informal manufacturing sector.
