FAMa Repels Drone-Backed Assault on Kignan Police Station, Claims 100+ Militants at Nearby Regroupment Zones

| Sahel Insurgency

Armed militants attacked the police station (commissariat) in Kignan, Sikasso Region, around 6:00am local time on August 30, 2026. Mali's army General Staff said the attackers set fire to two police motorcycles before being repelled; troops shot down one attacker-operated kamikaze drone and recovered eight motorcycles abandoned in the attackers' retreat. No casualty figures were disclosed. Using intelligence gathered from the assault, FAMa said it located three armed-group regroupment zones in the nearby Dogoni sector — reportedly housing 100+ combatants and significant military equipment — and struck them along with additional positions southeast of Macina. The attacking group was not officially identified.
