Russia–Burkina Faso Diplomatic Meeting in Moscow to Expand AES Cooperation

| Sahel Insurgency

Russia's Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister G.E. Borisenko received Burkina Faso's Ambassador Aristide Tapsoba in Moscow on April 7, 2026, with talks focused on expanding Russia's economic and security cooperation with the Alliance of Sahel States. The meeting is part of a sustained diplomatic track between the AES bloc and Russia following the expulsion of Western military missions from all three AES states. Burkina Faso currently holds the AES rotating chairmanship under Captain Traoré. Russia has supplied arms, Africa Corps security personnel, and diplomatic cover at the UN Security Council. A Russia-AES joint ministerial meeting is expected in 2026 to formalize enhanced cooperation agreements.
