FLA Launches FPV Kamikaze Drone Strikes on FAMa Base at Agelhok, Kidal Region

| Sahel Insurgency

The Front de Libération de l'Azawad (FLA), the Tuareg separatist armed group, launched two FPV kamikaze drone strikes against a Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) military base at Agelhok village in northern Kidal Region, Mali. FLA released footage of both strikes: the first drone targeted a tent but failed to detonate; the second drone chased a FAMa soldier across open ground with the explosion occurring slightly off-target. No confirmed casualties were reported. Agelhok had previously been targeted by an FLA drone strike in late March 2026. The attack is part of the FLA's sustained asymmetric drone campaign against FAMa and Africa Corps positions following the fall of Kidal to FAMa/Africa Corps in November 2023. Around the same period, TRAC Terrorism monitoring documented a separate FLA FPV attack on a TB2 Bayraktar drone control center at Amachach, Tessalit — a high-value target given Africa Corps's reliance on TB2 reconnaissance for northern operations. The FLA's drone campaign represents a significant adaptation, using commercially available FPV platforms to contest FAMa air superiority and force costly defensive dispersal of high-value Africa Corps assets.
