| Russia Fuel Crisis

Ukraine's General Staff confirmed strikes overnight on Sept 12-13 against the Slavyansk-ECO oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, Krasnodar Krai (nominal capacity 5.2 million tonnes/year, last struck Dec 17 2025) and the Taneco refinery complex in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, the same hub hit in the deadly Aug 10 2026 strike. NASA's FIRMS satellite service detected strong thermal radiation near the Slavyansk plant around 1 a.m. local time, and residents reported thick smoke over the site by dawn; Ukraine's General Staff said the refinery's key oil-processing unit and tank farm were hit and that the plant "is involved in meeting the needs of the Russian Armed Forces." At Nizhnekamsk, a fire was reported in one of the Taneco complex's storage tanks. No casualties were reported at either site as of publication.
