JNE orders comprehensive IT audit of April 12 election with results still uncertified

| Peru

Peru's National Jury of Elections (JNE) ordered a 'comprehensive and exhaustive IT audit' of the April 12 presidential election, with official results still uncertified more than three weeks after voting. The decision came amid intense political pressure from López Aliaga's fraud claims and growing international concern. The audit further prolonged the post-election uncertainty in a country that had already cycled through eight presidents in under ten years. Interim president José María Balcázar (elected by Congress in February 2026 after removing José Jerí for influence peddling) was overseeing the transition period, with the June 7 runoff date fast approaching.
