Board of Peace's Mladenov Warns Gaza Ceasefire 'Threatens a Collapse' in Al Jazeera Interview

| Peace Processes

August 28, 2026 — Two days after telling the UN Security Council a collapse would be an irreversible 'point of no return,' Board of Peace High Representative Nikolay Mladenov gave a Friday interview to Al Jazeera reiterating that the failure of both Israel and Hamas to adhere to the peace roadmap 'threatens a collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza.' Mladenov said there is 'no better alternative to the current plan' and that a 'return to war would be devastating,' directing his warning at both parties as Gaza continued to see Israeli raids and strikes. He noted Morocco has agreed to contribute troops to the International Stabilisation Force (Turkey will not participate, with an initial contingent expected to arrive soon) and that the Board has secured $7 billion in reconstruction pledges, even as the National Committee for Gaza Administration has yet to formally assume governing responsibilities and Netanyahu continues to reject elements of the Board's 15-point roadmap.
