PPP Wins Gilgit-Baltistan Elections; Forms Coalition with PML-N

Unofficial results from the June 7 Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly election confirmed the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) as the largest party with 10 of 24 general seats, ahead of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 6 seats. PTI-backed independents won 2 seats, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen won 1, and other independents took 5. PPP and PML-N announced a power-sharing agreement under which PPP secures the offices of Chief Minister and Speaker while PML-N takes Governor, Deputy Speaker, and Leader of the Opposition; the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party also pledged support to the PPP-led alliance, giving it a working majority in the strategic northern territory.
