UN Women: 38,000+ Women and Girls Killed in Gaza — Average of 47 Per Day (Oct 2023–Dec 2025)
On April 24, 2026, UN Women published a landmark report documenting the gendered impact of Israel's war in Gaza, finding that more than 38,000 women and girls were killed between October 2023 and December 2025 — an average of 47 per day. The report, based on Gaza Health Ministry data adjusted for underreporting, found that women, children, and older persons comprise more than half of all fatalities. Close to 11,000 women and girls now have lifelong disabilities as a result of the conflict. Over 58,600 households — 14% of all households, up from 9% in 2023 — are now led by women, many of whom are widows. The report documented systemic reproductive violence resulting from destroyed healthcare facilities: more than 50% of hospitals are non-functional, and nearly all schools have been destroyed or damaged. Over 1.9 million Palestinians remain displaced; nearly 60% have lost their homes. The report was released on the occasion of the six-month anniversary of the October 10, 2025 ceasefire, highlighting that the killing of women and girls has continued despite the declared truce. The report called for urgent international accountability mechanisms and the full restoration of humanitarian access.
