Kim Jong-un Opens Memorial Museum for DPRK Soldiers Killed in Ukraine
Kim Jong-un inaugurated the 'Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at the Overseas Military Operations' in Pyongyang, dedicated to North Korean soldiers killed fighting alongside Russian forces in Kursk Oblast, Ukraine. In his speech, Kim publicly praised soldiers who died by suicide rather than be captured by Ukrainian forces, calling them 'heroes' — the first time Kim explicitly acknowledged the scale of DPRK combat deaths and the extreme circumstances faced by DPRK troops in Ukraine. Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin attended the ceremony and thanked Kim for DPRK's role in 'the liberation of Kursk.' South Korean intelligence estimates approximately 15,000 DPRK troops were deployed to Kursk, with approximately 2,000 killed in combat. The museum opening marks a decisive shift from previous DPRK denials of troop deployment.
