Junta Jet Bombs Kyauktaw Market, Killing at Least 33 Civilians

A Myanmar military fighter jet dropped two bombs near the main wholesale market in Kyauktaw, northern Rakhine State, around noon local time, killing at least 33 people — vendors, shoppers and pedestrians — and wounding 36, according to the Arakan Army and a local rescue official, who called it one of the most severe airstrikes in Rakhine. Buildings, vehicles and a nearby bridge were damaged. The town is in AA-controlled territory; the military did not comment. It is among the deadliest strikes in Rakhine since the December 2025 Mrauk-U hospital attack.
