Arakan Army Repels Junta Column Advancing Toward Taung Maw Oo Naval Station in Kyaukphyu

Heavy clashes broke out September 9-10, 2026 in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, after the Arakan Army intercepted a junta column advancing from Awa Taung village toward the strategic Taung Maw Oo naval station. Facing significant casualties, regime forces called in airstrikes and naval artillery cover, but AA troops held their positions, capturing military equipment, weapons and recovering several enemy bodies left behind. The fighting is part of the SAC's 'Operation 4926' counteroffensive launched September 4 against AA-held territory in Rakhine, where a military defector said Sittwe and Kyaukphyu remain the junta's only remaining ground footholds in the state.
