PDF and Pa Ka Pha Forces Capture Aung Chan Thar Base in Kalewa Township — Ye-U–Kalewa Road Reopened

| Myanmar

Resistance forces composed of the People's Defence Force (PDF) and Pa Ka Pha units captured the Aung Chan Thar base in Kalewa Township, Sagaing Region, by April 28, 2026, in a significant multi-day offensive along the Chindwin River corridor. Junta troops retreated to Sin Ain Ma village following the fall of the base. The Ye-U–Kalewa road — a strategically important supply and logistics route in northwest Sagaing Region — was reopened following the operation, cutting junta overland resupply capacity to remaining SAC garrisons along the Chindwin. Kalewa is a town on the Chindwin River in western Sagaing Region near the Indian border, and its garrison has been under sustained resistance pressure for months. The capture of the Aung Chan Thar base is part of the broader PDF expansion in Sagaing Region that has, by ACLED estimates, left the junta in control of fewer than 100 of 330+ townships. MoeMaKa's April 28 CDM News report documented the operation as part of a broader list of resistance operations completed in the April 25–28 timeframe, reflecting continued offensive momentum by resistance forces across multiple fronts despite the SAC's April 24 martial law expansion across 60 townships.
