SAC Jets Bomb KNU Hospital in Bue So (Karen State) — 9 Bombs Dropped, One Crosses Into Thailand; 6 AA Members Killed

| Myanmar

At approximately 11:00 AM on April 20, 2026, Myanmar Air Force Yak-130 and MiG-29 fighter jets dropped nine bombs targeting a Karen National Union (KNU) hospital and civilian areas in the Bue So area, Hpapun District, Kayin (Karen) State — approximately 500 meters from the Thai border along the Salween River. One bomb crossed the international border into Thai territory, landing in the Mae Wan area near Mae Sam Laep village, Sop Moei District, Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand. Thai 36th Ranger Forces Regiment personnel responded to the cross-border incident; affected Thai residents were evacuated as a precaution. The Arakan Army subsequently condemned the airstrike, reporting that six AA members were killed in the attack — indicating the presence of AA fighters or patients at the KNU facility. The UN and the international community condemned the hospital strike. Myanmar's military has documented history of targeting medical facilities: the KNU operates a network of hospitals and clinics in resistance-controlled Karen State providing care to civilians and fighters alike. The cross-border bombing constitutes one of the most serious violations of Thai sovereignty by Myanmar military aircraft since the 2021 coup, threatening to draw Thailand more directly into the conflict and increase diplomatic pressure on the junta from Bangkok.
