SAC Jets Kill Two Monks at Seik Hkun Monastery, Sagaing — Thingyan Eve Airstrikes
On April 13 — the eve of Myanmar's Thingyan Water Festival — SAC jet aircraft bombed Seik Hkun village west of Shwebo Township in Sagaing Region, striking a monastery and nearby school. Two monks were killed (ages 29 and approximately 50), eight novice monks were injured, and a pregnant woman sustained a leg wound; at least three other civilians were injured. Five bombs were dropped on the monastery, destroying dormitories, dining halls, and wells; nearby school buildings and homes were also damaged. Separate SAC airstrikes in the Tan Zin and Ponnagyun village areas of Sagaing Region were reported the same day. The timing of the strikes during the holiest period of Myanmar's Buddhist calendar — the four-day Thingyan festival when millions gather with family — drew widespread condemnation. The pattern of striking religious institutions mirrors the SAC's documented campaign against civilian infrastructure including churches, mosques, and Buddhist temples across conflict-affected states and regions.
