Former Morena Mayoral Candidate Roger Hernández Flores Assassinated in Puebla

| MX Politics

Attorney Roger Hernández Flores — a former Morena candidate for mayor of Tepeojuma and director of that municipality's Casa del Migrante — was shot dead on the morning of July 25 in downtown Izúcar de Matamoros, Puebla, as he left the Santiago Apóstol church with his wife and children after distributing breakfasts during the town's patronal festival. Armed men intercepted the family and opened fire; Hernández Flores died at the scene, and two of his sisters were reportedly wounded. Municipal police detained a suspect at the scene. Hernández Flores had recently met with Morena federal deputies Magdalena Monreal and Reginaldo Sandoval Flores to discuss migration policy. The killing added to 2026's mounting toll of political violence against current and former officeholders and candidates across parties.
