Chihuahua Gubernatorial Election — PAN Alleges Fraud
PAN candidate Francisco Barrio was widely believed to have won the Chihuahua governorship against PRI's Fernando Baeza, but PRI was declared the winner. The fraud triggered mass protests and a PAN campaign of civil disobedience including a bridge blockade. The U.S. government criticized the results. The episode radicalized the PAN and foreshadowed the 1988 crisis.
