Tlatelolco Massacre — The Night of Tlatelolco
Military and police forces opened fire on student protesters gathered at Plaza de las Tres Culturas in Tlatelolco, Mexico City, 10 days before the Olympics. The government used the covert Olympic Battalion, which provoked chaos before the Army fired. Official death toll was 30–40; independent estimates range from 200–300. The bodies were removed overnight. Journalist Elena Poniatowska documented survivors' testimonies in La Noche de Tlatelolco (1971).
