Lázaro Cárdenas Elected President
Lázaro Cárdenas del Río was elected PNR president with overwhelming support. Initially seen as a Calles loyalist, Cárdenas broke sharply with the Jefe Máximo and pursued a radical agrarian and labor program. His election marked the beginning of the most transformative presidency in post-revolutionary Mexico, redistributing more land than any predecessor.
