Peña Nieto Inaugurated — PRI Returns to Power After 12-Year PAN Interval

Enrique Peña Nieto (PRI) was inaugurated on December 1, 2012, ending 12 years of PAN presidencies. The PRI's return came with a reformist agenda — the Pacto por México — that secured cooperation from PAN and PRD for major structural reforms. Peña Nieto's first year was rated one of the most productive in legislative terms since the Cárdenas era. However, by 2014 his presidency collapsed under the Ayotzinapa crisis, corruption scandals, and economic stagnation.
