Battle of Molino del Rey — Costly US Attack

| Mexico-US Wars

Acting on faulty intelligence that Mexico was casting cannon at the Molino del Rey (King's Mill), General Worth's division stormed the fortified complex at dawn. The assault succeeded but at disproportionate cost — 116 Americans killed and 665 wounded, nearly 25% of the attacking force, one of the highest US casualty rates of the war. No cannon foundry was found. Critics viewed it as an avoidable blunder.
