'El Brilloso,' Alleged CJNG Regional Operator, Arrested in Zapopan — 32nd Detainee in Carlos Manzo Assassination Case
On September 9, 2026, Alexis Jesús Medina García, alias 'El Brilloso,' 31, was arrested in Zapopan, Jalisco, on charges of qualified homicide and qualified injuries tied to the November 1, 2025 assassination of Uruapan, Michoacán mayor Carlos Manzo. Michoacán's Attorney General's Office said Medina García allegedly took part in the encrypted messaging group that coordinated the attack and had assumed leadership of a CJNG-linked criminal cell in Uruapan operating within the 'Los Rs' structure after the November 2025 arrest of Jorge Armando Gómez, alias 'El Licenciado.' Prosecutors also attribute extortion of merchants and avocado producers in Uruapan and Jalisco to him. He is the brother of former boxer Cristian Martín Medina García, alias 'El Vikingo,' detained August 7 and described by prosecutors as maintaining direct communication with 'El R2' of the same CJNG-linked cell. With this arrest, 32 people have been placed before the courts in the Manzo case.
