Suspected CJNG Explosives Ambush Wounds 2 FRIZ Officers Near El Chique Dam, Zacatecas — First of a Three-Attack Wave
On the morning of Thursday, August 27, 2026, Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata Zacatecas (FRIZ) officers patrolling toward Jalpa were ambushed with homemade dynamite devices roughly 30km short of their destination, near the El Chique dam in the San Luis community, Tabasco municipality, Zacatecas — about 115km southwest of Zacatecas City. Two FRIZ officers sustained minor injuries during at least two explosions and a sustained exchange of gunfire; related confrontations were reported the same day near the Los Soyates ranch (Villanueva municipality) and the Los Serna dam across the state line in Calvillo, Aguascalientes. Zacatecas State Prosecutor Cristian Paul Camacho Osnaya later said CJNG could be linked to this attack and to two further attacks in the following days (Aug 29 Villa García, Aug 30 Ojocaliente), making it the first of three suspected CJNG explosives attacks on Zacatecas police within a week.
