President Aoun Visits Ankara; Erdogan Offers Turkish Role in Post-UNIFIL Force

President Joseph Aoun made a one-day visit to Ankara, his first since taking office and the first visit by a Lebanese head of state to Turkey in 17 years. Aoun called on Turkey to help secure a full Israeli withdrawal from south Lebanon. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Aoun that Ankara was ready to join a security arrangement in south Lebanon once UNIFIL's mandate ends later in 2026.
