First Military-Track Talks at Pentagon on Lebanon: Withdrawal Timeline, Hezbollah Disarmament, LAF Takeover
Lebanese, Israeli, and US military delegations met at the Pentagon on May 29 for the first strictly military-track meeting under the Washington process — a significant step in translating diplomatic agreements into operational reality. The agenda focused on Israel's withdrawal timetable from Lebanese territory, the Lebanese Armed Forces' full takeover of the south, US financial and material support for the LAF, Hezbollah disarmament south of the Litani, and the future ceasefire enforcement mechanism. A fourth political round of talks was scheduled for June 2–3 in Washington. Lebanon's delegation reiterated its demand for a real and complete ceasefire before any normalization discussions. The IDF separately intercepted an apparent Hezbollah drone over southern Lebanon where Israeli troops were operating, triggering sirens in the Israeli border communities of Hanita, Misgav Am, and Margaliot — underscoring the tension between diplomacy and ongoing military activity.
