Son of Israeli Ambassador to US Critically Wounded in West Bank Car-Ramming Attack

Neria Leiter, an IDF reservist and son of Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter, was critically wounded around 5:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when a vehicle rammed a checkpoint he was manning on Route 443 near the Beit Horon settlement in the West Bank. Magen David Adom medics found Leiter unconscious and evacuated him to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he was listed in serious condition. The driver, identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Health as 29-year-old Mahmoud Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman of the nearby village of Beit Ur al-Tahta, was shot dead at the scene. Ambassador Leiter said on social media he was 'grateful to the IDF, to the medical team at Shaare Zedek who are now fighting to save the life of Neria,' noting his son had served hundreds of reserve days since October 7, 2023 and continued serving after his older brother, Maj. Moshe Yedidya Leiter, was killed in Gaza in November 2023. Hamas praised the attack as a 'natural response' to Israeli actions in the West Bank and Jerusalem but did not claim responsibility.
